Aging with Purpose: My New Journey to 100

Life lessons from a professional change manager that has finally recognized and embraced his own inner change.

As a “change manager” (problem solver, firefighter, sh!t handler … it goes by many names), I’ve spent my entire career helping organizations and teams navigate through significant transformations as well adapting to new paradigms. I personally have managed at least four career changes. Change is truly something I thoroughly love and enjoy.

Recently, however, I have realized that while I may be good at managing external change, I have not recognized and managed internal change as well.

Case in point: When I turned 40, my eyesight started to fade. I went to the doctor thinking something was wrong, and when I told her how old I was, her exact (painfully honest) quote was, “Oh, that’s why. You’re just getting old.”

Thanks, doc.

I fought getting glasses for years until driving at night made me nervous. I knew I owed it to my kids and those in the car to have them, so I gave in and got my first pair.

Since turning 50, many things have come with more challenge, physically and mentally. Even staying up late has been a struggle. I am not ready to be “old” and have been…
