When I was a senior at ASU in Tempe, AZ, I was recruited by a company in northern California that paid to fly me out for an in-person interview. I felt very high-class and in-demand. When I arrived, the president picked me up and gave me a tour of the office, which was in a beautiful area outside of San Francisco. Since it was spring, the weather was outstanding.

He really put on the hard sell.

One memory that stands out was when I was introduced to one of the young women in the office who had had the logo of the LA Dodgers somehow tattooed on a tooth. As a huge Dodger fan, I thought this was very serendipitous, even if a bit extreme.

After a long day, the president drove me into San Francisco to have a couple of beers and talk about my future before my flight. We sat so long that as he drove me to the airport, it was apparent I was going to miss my flight, so he made a quick call and rebooked me on a later flight. When he dropped me off, he said, “The job is yours, if you want it.”
