I recently received an ad suggesting I hire hire a virtual assistant, someone (mind you a complete stranger) who would handle menial administrative tasks and help me “focus on the things that matter.”

My first reaction was, “Wait, how do they know I’m not doing things that matter?”

Anyway, it is a thought-provoking idea that Tim Ferris argues for extensively in his seminal book, The 4-Hour Workweek. When you mindfully contemplate the value of your time, it is almost impossible to argue against the relatively minor cost of having someone do the mindless and non-value adding tasks that consume our time each day and week.

A decade ago, I would have been a prime target audience for this ad, but I have spent the past few years identifying and streamlining my non-value administrative tasks so I can focus on things that matter.

Over the next few posts, I will share the “personal management system” I employ that has liberated my time and freed me from the hours of stress and anxiety I used to have.
